A Kitchener man has been charged in connection with Wednesday morning’s collision in the city’s downtown.

Waterloo Regional Police say the 64-year-old man was behind the wheel of the vehicle that hit a cyclist at Duke and Victoria streets around 7 a.m.

The cyclist, a 25-year-old Kitchener woman, was waiting to turn left onto Duke at the time of the crash. She was thrown from her bike and ended up in hospital with serious head injuries.

The driver of the vehicle is now facing a charge of careless driving.

Police say cyclists are “strongly recommended” to wear helmets, which this woman was not doing.
