Dellen Millard, 28, has been charged with first-degree murder in connection with the deaths of his father and a missing Toronto woman.
Millard was charged with first-degree murder last spring in connection with the death of Ancaster resident Tim Bosma, 32, who he allegedly killed after asking to test-drive a pickup truck Bosma had listed for sale.
That case brought police to Waterloo Region, where investigators spent many days at a Roseville Road farm and a Region of Waterloo International Airport hangar, both of which were owned by Millard.
As that investigation progressed, police also looked into the death of Millard’s father Wayne Millard, which had initially been ruled a suicide, and the disappearance of Laura Babcock, with whom Millard had a romantic relationship.
Babcock was last seen in July 2012, in Toronto’s Roncesvalles neighbourhood.
Toronto Police say the additional murder charges against Millard were laid Thursday in a Toronto court.
“Police would like to thank the members of the public and members of the media for their assistance in this investigation,” Staff Insp. Greg McLane said Thursday at a news conference.
Also facing new charges is Mark Smich, 26 years old and previously charged with first-degree murder relating to Bosma’s death.
Smich now faces a second charge of first-degree murder, this one in connection to the death of Babcock.
Babcock’s uncle, Thomas Ryan, says family members are having trouble processing Thursday’s developments.
“She’s been missing almost two years now. That whole time, we’ve been not just hopeful but confident that Laura would return safe and sound one day,” Ryan tells CTV News.
“To get this news is absolutely devastating.”
A 21-year-old Toronto woman, Christina Noudga, has been charged with accessory after the fact to murder as part of the investigation into Bosma’s death.
Police say they continue to investigate.
