Five people were forced out of their home Tuesday night by a fire.

Firefighters were called to the townhouse on Oprington Drive, in the Victoria Street and Fischer-Hallman Road area of Kitchener, around 8:30 p.m.

One occupant of the townhouse was hospitalized with minor injuries they received while attempting to extinguish the fire.

Neighbouring units were evacuated. People in those units were allowed to go back inside once the fire was extinguished.

The fire is believed to have started on the building’s upper floor.

Early indications were that it did not appear to be suspicious, firefighters said.
