A 75-year-old pedestrian has been killed in a collision in St. Clements, northwest of Waterloo.

Police say the man was struck at the corner of Lobsinger Line and Bell Street, near Hergott Road in Wellesley Township, shortly after 5 p.m. Wednesday.

The pedestrian, Francis Reitzel of St. Clements, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the vehicle, a 38-year-old St. Clements man, was not injured. Police say alcohol and speed were not factors in the collision.

St. Clements residents say their thoughts are with Reitzel and his family.

"Let's face it, a week before Christmas, it's a sad time," says Dianne Cerjak, who has lived in the community for 24 years.

The intersection was blocked off to traffic as police undertook an investigation.

Officials with Ornge say an air ambulance was originally called to the scene, but was later cancelled.
