A Fergus man was arrested after allegedly crashing into a taxi in Elora, injuring two people – and police say it wasn’t the first time they dealt with him Monday night.

According to Wellington County OPP, an officer patrolling on Wellington Road 7 south of a village came across a northbound vehicle travelling at an “extremely unsafe” speed around 9:45 p.m.

For safety reasons, the officer followed the vehicle at the speed limit, quickly losing sight of it.

Not long after, the officer found the vehicle further up the road, just before York Street, having crashed into a taxi.

The driver of the taxi and his passenger were both taken to hospital with injuries described as serious but not life-threatening.

The 32-year-old man allegedly driving the other vehicle, Donald Van Zeyl, was arrested and charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing bodily harm, impaired driving causing bodily harm, failure to provide a breath sample and driving while suspended.
