The driver of a recycling truck who was charged in connection with a crash that critically injured a 13-year-old girl made a court appearance on Tuesday morning.

Jason Arndt, 37, of Kitchener, Ont. was charged with failing to stop for a school bus, careless driving, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing bodily harm and criminal negligence causing bodily harm.

On May 17, Lydia Herrle was getting off her school bus east of St. Agatha when she was struck by the truck.

The bus had its arm out and lights flashing at the time of the collision.

Herrle was transported to a local hospital before being transferred to Toronto’s Hospital for Sick Children for treatment.

She has been slowly recovering and was recently transferred to the Holland Bloorview Kids Rehabilitation Hospital.

The community has also rallied behind the family. At a fundraiser last Thursday, thousands were raised to support her family and recovery.

Arndt’s next court appearance has been set for August 28.
