Construction has been ongoing around Ottawa Street and Homer Watson Boulevard for some time – and next week is when drivers will really start to notice a difference.

On May 25, Alpine Road and Homer Watson will both close on the south side of Ottawa Street.

Part of Ottawa will also close, although a temporary bypass road will open to ferry eastbound and westbound traffic through the area. The bypass will include a protected pedestrian route.

As well, Region of Waterloo officials say vehicles will be able to make right turns from Ottawa to access businesses on Alpine.

The closures are expected to last for 14 weeks as major construction, including the creation of two roundabouts, takes place in the intersections of Ottawa/Homer Watson and Ottawa/Alpine.

The recommended detour for drivers is along Strasburg Road, Block Line Road and Courtland Avenue.
