A 40-year-old has been charged after officers were called to reports of someone carrying a concealed firearm in Kitchener.

Officers responded to the area of King Street East and Montgomery Road around 1 a.m. Saturday.

Police say they determined the firearm was a BB gun and no injuries were reported.

"We are seeing incidents, especially around crime, where weapons are being reported, especially guns or airsoft or BB guns, so that isn't uncommon," said Cst. Andre Johnson with Waterloo Regional Police Service. "However, they are still criminal offences if they are being comissioned during a crime."

The man has been charged with possessing a weapon for a dangerous purpose and breach of probation.
