Family and friends gathered on Tuesday to voice their concerns about the loss of John James, who was found dead on the weekend.
The 19-year-old died after an apparent altercation outside Cameron Heights Collegiate Institute around midnight on Saturday.
Relatives gathered outside the Kitchener courthouse to express their concerns about the release of the man accused in his death.
They say they were not told about the bail hearing on Monday for 18-year-old Zachary Schultz, who is charged with manslaughter.
The family also says they only learned the details of the case, which are covered by a publication ban, after James's mother had a meeting with court officials.
William Chuol, assistant pastor at Hope Lutheran Church, says "It's very hard. It's a hearbreak for all Sudanese and for the whole family."
Puoch Rouk, a member of the victim's family, says "As a family they don't want to give us any information about what happened so that's why we are so really shocked for what happened."
Schultz is scheduled to appear in court again on June 15.
