The move-in process has been anything but smooth for hundreds of students still waiting to get into Icon Waterloo.

The new off campus apartments at Phillip and University are still not ready.

The Ward Councillor feels for students and says the city is ready to grant the permit when it is safe to do so.

“It’s really important when you move in that you’ve got running water, that you’ve got electricity, that the door locks, and the window opens and that in the event of an emergency you can get out safely,” says Jeff Henry, Councillor, City of Waterloo.

While the university’s federation of students has been pushing for more protections provincially, there is nothing in place for students this long weekend.

Icon told CTV News on Sunday it is providing hotel accommodations – however some students say they are still scrambling.
