A pet cat is believed to have been attacked and killed by a wolf or coyote in Guelph early Monday.

Guelph Police say they were contacted around 1:40 a.m. by a man who reported that his cat had been attacked and killed by what appeared to be a wolf.

The animal was then seen running westbound on Waverley Drive.

Upon arriving at the scene police officers observed what they believe was a three-legged coyote running into the Guelph Country Club Golf Course.

Police are reminding residents in the area and pet owners not to leave their pets out after dark until the animal can be located and capture.
