Police say careless smoking caused a fire at a home in a townhouse complex in the Hespler area of Cambridge just before midnight on Saturday.
A 52-year-old woman was the only person living in the unit. She managed to escape without any injures, and she was taken to hospital for observation.
Several nearby residents had to be evacuated, but were able to return home after a short time.
Damage is estimated at about $120,000.
