PORTUGAL COVE-ST. PHILIP'S, N.L. -- Police have identified a 72-year-old man who died in a boating accident off Newfoundland's east coast on Saturday.

They say Gordon Reid of Cambridge, Ont., was taking part in the recreational cod fishery with two other family members when their boat overturned.

People in another boat picked them up off Bell Island across from Portugal Cove, about 15 kilometres west of St. John's.

The RCMP say the three were pulled from the water by other fishermen in the area and that they weren't wearing life-jackets.

Police say Reid was originally from Bell Island.
