A man is facing a string of charges following an incident Saturday evening on Speedsville Road near the Riverside Park entrance in Cambridge.

Around 7:00 p.m. the man failed to obey a traffic signal, drove into oncoming traffic and collided with another vehicle. Witnesses attempted to prevent the driver from leaving because they believed he may have been impaired. A man reached into his vehicle to remove the keys from the ignition and was struck several times. The driver also brandished a large knife. The driver then fled the scene on foot, and was followed by another witness. Police were able to locate the man and arrested him after a brief struggle.

The 54-year-old Cambridge man was charged with impaired driving, dangerous driving, leaving the scene of an accident, possession of a weapon and assault. He will be appearing in court at a later date.
