Henry Grasso, 51, has died after being hit by a car while crossing the road in Burlington on Sunday evening.

Halton Regional police say Grasso was struck by a Nissan Maxima while crossing the road and was pronounced dead upon arrival in hospital.

The sad death comes just months after Grasso's 46-year-old wife Nancy was killed in an explosion at their Brantford home.

The explosion in August, believed to be related to natural gas, destroyed the family home and damaged a number of neighbouring houses on Ruffian Road.

Henry was at work at the time of the explosion.

Friends and neighbours say they're stunned by what has happened, since Henry was just beginning to move on, accepting his wife's death and planning to rebuild the home they had shared.

Grasso was reportedly visiting friends in Burlington and making plans to visit his daughter and grandson.

He was apparently speaking to them on his cell phone at the time he was struck.

Gerry Gallant visited the scene of the August explosion on Monday and says "It's something that you would never believe would happen."

Jonathan Jorna grew up just a few doors down from the Grassos and worked with Nancy at a local MacDonald's.

He says he gets emotional every time he passes the place that used to be their home.

"It leaves a feeling over the entire street, just an emptiness when you drive down the road, knowing that what should be there isn't."

The 25-year-old male driver from Burlington and the 22-year-old female passenger of the car involved were not injured, but the woman was treated for shock at the scene.

No charges have been laid, but the death marks the 15th traffic fatality for Halton police this year.
