Blind dog up for adoption at K-W Humane Society
The Humane Society of Kitchener Waterloo and Stratford Perth is hoping to find a forever home for a blind dog named Honey.
Honey is around three-years-old and was found wandering around aimlessly, caked in mud according to the humane society.
“She was brought to our centre by some wonderful community members and our medical team quickly got to work making sure she was ok,” said a post on social media.

She was completely blind due to glaucoma and needed surgery to remove both eyes. She also needed to be spayed and required dental surgery. The humane society believes she was chewing at the bars of a cage due to the condition of her teeth.
A local groomer donated her services to give Honey a makeover.
“She looked like a completely different dog after and was ready to start her road to recovery and a happy, new life,” staff said.
Honey has fully recovered from surgery.
“We have a feeling many people out there are going to fall in love with her,” the humane society said.

Stacy Murphy, a registered veterinary technician with the humane society and Honey’s foster mom, said the right home for Honey will have to be prepared for her blindness.
“She definitely needs a home that understands that she has some special needs because she’s blind,” Murphy explained. “So being careful around stairs, possibly putting up baby gates so that she doesn’t injure herself on stairs and then just some general dog proofing for a little dog that might bump into things.”
She said Honey is sure to bring joy into whatever home she ends up in.
“She is so energetic and lovely. She loves to play, she loves carrying toys around and she interacts with my cats and dogs,” Murphy said. “She also really likes to snuggle. So she’ll play for a while and then she’ll just cuddle up on your lap.”
The humane society is now accepting applications for Honey’s adoption on their website.
They’re also looking for more dog fosters who can help dogs in need of medical attention, like Honey, on their road to recovery. People interested in fostering can apply online.
