Police say a fire that caused millions of dollars in damage to a motorhome dealer and service centre north of Barrie is not considered suspicious.

Flames began shooting out of the Hitch House on Highway 11 at around 2:30 p.m. Tuesday and the fire continued to smolder late into the night.

The fire broke out in a motorhome on the showroom floor and spread to destroy the main building and at least eight other motorhomes on the property.

Several others were damaged.

The Hitch House is a family-owned business operating in the area for more than four decades and is a familiar sight on Highway 11's so-called Gasoline Alley.

Highway 11 southbound in the area was closed for about three hours.
