A 23-year-old man was arrested after a Christmas Eve incident in Waterloo.

Police say the man was seen punching the outside wall of a Petro-Canada gas station on King Street North on the morning of Dec. 24.

The man was then seen knocking over a parking sign, and throwing a garbage can and its contents across the parking lot, as well as loudly swearing at passing vehicles.

Police were called to the gas station and tried to talk to the man, who allegedly punched the officer in the face. Two men, not police officers, witnessed the struggle and assisted the officer in arresting the suspect.

The 23-year-old was charged with mischief and assaulting police.

The officer was not seriously injured.
