Waterloo Regional Police are investigating two bank robberies that occurred seven minutes apart in Kitchener.

The first robbery occurred at 10:29 a.m. Tuesday at the Scotiabank at King and Ontario streets.

At 10:36 a.m., a second robbery was reported two kilometres away, at the Scotiabank at King Street and Sheldon Avenue.

“The information we have is that the male entered, demanded money and left with an undisclosed amount of cash,” police spokesperson Olaf Heinzel tells CTV News.

No weapons were seen in either case, and no injuries were reported.

Police believe the same person may be responsible for both heists.

“The early descriptors we have is that it was a white male in his mid-40s. He was wearing a dark jacket and a plaid scarf,” says Heinzel.

Both banks closed immediately following the robberies, but ATMs remained accessible.
