RCMP charge student after weapon incident at Middle Musquodoboit, N.S., school

RCMP Halifax Regional Detachment has arrested a youth after he allegedly brought an airsoft pistol to a high school in Middle Musquodoboit, N.S., and used it against other students.

Officers responded to a weapons complaint at Musquodoboit Rural High School on Monday. Police say the suspect shot a student in the hand and later brandished the pistol at another student.

The student shot with the pistol suffered minor injuries. Both victims were known to the shooter, said the RCMP news release.

The suspect fled school property after staff learned of his actions and confronted him.

RCMP says officers arrested the suspect at a residence in Elmsvale, N.S., later that evening.

The youth was released on conditions and is scheduled to appear in Shubenacadie Youth Justice Court on March 10 to face charges of:

- possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose

- assault with a weapon

- uttering threats.
