A Guelph man faces charges after allegedly attacking his own dog.

Guelph Police say they were called to a location near Huron Street around 7:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Two men had been walking dogs in the area, when one of them allegedly picked up their dog, wrapped his hands around its neck and shook the dog.

A witness who confronted the man was then threatened, police say.

Matthew McMullen, 28, is charged with uttering threats and causing unnecessary suffering to animals.

The dog is said to be uninjured.
