A Perth County couple’s bid to maintain their dog kennel won’t be settled for another three months.
Facing 18 animal cruelty charges, Menno and Viola Streicher appeared in Stratford court Friday only to be told that the judge wouldn’t render a decision until September.
The charges were laid last October by the OSPCA, who alleged that the dogs were not properly cared for as the Streichers’ Amish lifestyle doesn’t permit them to use electricity.
In the aftermath of the charges, the Township of Perth East revoked the Streichers’ kennel licence, citing an inspection which found evidence of poor lighting and ventilation, overcrowding and a strong smell of ammonia.
Several animal rights activists were present in the courtroom Friday.
