A Waterloo man is charged with aggravated assault following an incident which left another man in critical condition.

Guelph Police say they were called to a downtown establishment around 11:30 p.m. Thursday.

They say a 24-year-old man and a 35-year-old man became involved in an altercation outside the Macdonell Street nightclub, and both ended up on the ground.

The 35-year-old man hit his head on the pavement in the process, and as of Friday afternoon was listed in stable but critical condition at Hamilton General Hospital.

The 24-year-old, identified by police as Bradley Larkin, was arrested and charged. He was later released from custody on a promise to appear in court on Dec. 29.

Larkin is the son of Waterloo Regional Police Chief Bryan Larkin.

Police say they’re continuing to investigate the incident.
