One of the most one-sided races anywhere in Ontario on Monday was in Stratford.

It took some time for results to percolate out from the city due to technical issues, but once they did, incumbent Mayor Dan Mathieson found himself with more than 80 per cent of the vote.

“It sets a high bar of expectation. It’s a clear mandate, but … I have to work with the council and build a consensus,” Mathieson said of decisive victory.

Mathieson had 8,638 votes to his name, compared to 1,166 for Don Robinson.

Bringing up the rear were Martin Weatherall, with 523 votes, and Matthew Murphy, with 266.

Mathieson was first elected as mayor of Stratford in 2003.
