A little girl who lives in Paris, Ontario is supporting Syrian refugees in an unusual way.

Abigail Macdonald celebrated her 7th birthday by selling hot chocolate and cookies and plans to donate all of her proceeds towards bringing a refugee family to her town.

Abigail and her sister overheard their parents discussing the refugee crisis and wanted to help.

“A few days ago we went to every house putting invitations in the mailboxes,” says Abigail.

“I wanted to help my sister out in this big event and we’ve already gotten a lot of people to come, so we’re very happy,” says Abigail’s sister, Mikayla Macdonald.

The sisters are members of St. Paul’s United Church which is spear heading a group called Core, (The Coordination of Refugee Engagement Project.) Core is working to bring a Syrian family to Paris.

“The government has said that you need about $22,000 to sponsor a family. The committee wants to raise $30,000 so they can have a family of six or more,” says Alex MacDonald, Abigail’s father.

Abigail has so far raised $1,800 with her hot chocolate fund. If you wish to make a donation you can email the family at hotchocolateforhope@hotmail.com.
