401 WB near Woodstock closed due to multiple collisions

A multi-vehicle accident has closed the westbound lanes of the 401 near Woodstock.

Oxford County OPP closed the highway Saturday afternoon between Sweaburg Road and Foldens Line.

“The wind picked up and the snow came across the highway… we got stopped and then there were a couple of cars behind us that didn’t get stopped in time,” said Matt Johnston, who was travelling to London with his family.

Police say as many as 40 vehicles are involved.

“When you have all of the sudden cold and snow covered roads and possibly people not slowing down than it’s bound to happen,” said Lisa Narancsik with Oxford County OPP about the collisions.

“Thankfully it was only minor injuries,” Narancsik continued.

The highway was closed for hours while crews worked to remove the cars and clear the highway.
