15-year-old cyclist killed in crash on Highway 7/8
A 15-year-old boy is dead after his bicycle was hit by a vehicle on Highway 7/8 east of New Hamburg.
According to provincial police, who patrol the highway, the teen and a second cyclist were biking westbound on the Highway, west of Nafziger Road, just before midnight Tuesday morning.
The 15-year-old was said to be in the left lane, riding with the flow of traffic, when he was hit by an approaching vehicle.
He was taken to hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Police identified him as a resident of Baden.
The other cyclist had been riding on the shoulder, police said.
Highway 7/8 was closed in both directions for several hours.
Police say they want to hear from anyone who saw the cyclists in the area late Monday night.
