Kitchener’s first edition of Big Music Fest is underway.

The ‘Breaking Bands’ competition, which features 25 up-and-coming bands from across the province competing for prizes, kicked off Friday afternoon.

Saturday and Sunday, the festival continues at McLennan Park, with headliners including Bryan Adams, Aerosmith, Styx and Slash.

As of Friday afternoon, a limited number of two-day passes for the event remained on sale – but tickets for individual days were sold out.

Whether you already have your tickets or not, here’s what you need to know before heading down to the park:

  • Breaking Bands is the only free-admission part of the weekend. It runs until 10:30 p.m. Friday
  • Gates open at 2 p.m. Saturday, with Bryan Adams taking to the stage at 9 p.m.
  • Sunday follows the same schedule, with Aersomith the last performance on the docket
  • Make sure to bring everything you’ll need to get through the day – re-entry is not allowed
  • Also not allowed: Outside food and drinks. Bags will be searched at all entrances
  • If you’re looking for a seat, beach towels are OK, but lawn chairs are not
  • Cameras must be point-and-shoot, not SLRs
  • Most parking spots in the vicinity of McLennan Park have sold out
