With Canada’s 149th birthday being celebrated on a Friday, a number of businesses and services are closing for the day. Here are some of the most notable changes affecting Waterloo Region:
- Canada Post will not deliver mail on Friday because of the holiday. It is also possible that a labour disruption could start on or after Saturday, causing further delays.
- Grand River Transit runs on a Sunday schedule on Friday, then returns to its normal hours for Saturday and Sunday
- Household garbage, recycling and organic waste will be picked up Friday from homes that normally see pickup on Friday
- All of the region’s waste drop-off sites will be closed Friday
- Kitchener Public Library, Waterloo Public Library and Idea Exchange locations will be closed Friday
- Community centres and city-run indoor pools will be closed
- Fairview Park Mall, Conestoga Mall and Cambridge Centre will all be closed
- Most grocery stores and some pharmacies will be closed Friday – check your local pharmacy for details
- Major bank branches will be closed Friday
- LCBO and The Beer Store outlets are closed Friday
- Local farmers’ markets that normally run Saturday mornings will be open as usual
