Ryan Arcon wants $550,000 in damages according to Waterloo Regional Police.

According to testimony at his assault trial in May, Arcon was crazed, on various drugs and out of control when the officer told him to drop the two large knives he was holding.

Arcon’s roommate had called police for help dealing with him.

Arcon refused to drop the knives and kept coming at the constable even after he was shot five times.

The incidents happened three and half years ago at an apartment building on Erb Street West.

The responding officer testified he feared for his life. During the trial, the special investigations unit cleared the officer of any wrongdoing. Arcon's mother testified her son was lucky to be alive after the shooting.

Arcon was convicted by a jury, of four counts including assaulting the police officer, and possessing a dangerous weapon. He could be sentenced next week.

The Waterloo Regional Police Service has filed a statement of defence but won’t comment on the lawsuit because it’s before the courts.
