Citing personal health reasons, a Waterloo city councillor is temporarily stepping back from his duties.

Coun. Bob Mavin says he will be taking leave from attending council meetings, although he will continue to follow them online.

“I continue to be committed to serving my community and the residents in my ward to the best of my ability,” he said.

Mavin says he will also continue to respond to issues residents bring to his attention via email.

Mavin was elected to council in 2014. He represents Ward 1, which is in the city’s southwest.
