A water main break at the back of the Cambridge Memorial Hospital property has resulted in the cancellation of nearly 100 surgeries.

Hospital officials say the break occurred Friday morning, in a sensitive area near medical gas lines.

All 97 surgical procedures scheduled for Friday were cancelled, and will be rescheduled for future dates.

The hospital’s non-surgical units, including the emergency department, remain open.

Crews working on the expansion of the hospital stopped their work for the morning to help find and repair the leak, hospital officials said in a press release.

By mid-afternoon, a temporary solution had been set up to return water services to the building.

Surgeries scheduled for next week will go ahead as scheduled.
