TORONTO -- Two water heater installation companies have been hit with more than 400 charges following a provincial consumer fraud investigation.
The Consumer Services ministry alleges the companies did not deliver on contracts to install water heaters and other appliances for clients across southern Ontario.
Mr. Tankless Inc. and Ontario Ensource Inc. are also charged with failure to provide refunds and other "misleading and unconscionable" practices surrounding home energy audits and the availability of government rebates.
Two directors with the companies are also charged.
The ministry says the charges, made under Ontario's consumer protection law, follow numerous complaints from consumers about the companies.
The allegations have not been proven in court.
