A Cambridge family received a Christmas surprise Sunday. Six volunteers arrived at their home with boxes of lights and yard decals to decorate their house, after their Christmas decorations were stolen earlier this month.

Nelson Aguiar and his family took advantage of the warm weather on Sunday Nov. 17 to decorate their house and lawn for Christmas, but two days later thieves took all the decorations.

Nelson is fighting stage four colon cancer. He is set to start another round of chemotherapy on Monday, and said he didn’t have the energy to redecorate.

His wife Krista said it was hard to explain to their two boys where the decorations had gone.

"I just referred to the Grinch story. In a child's language, and they sort of understood and said ‘they'll bring it back then,’" she said.

Mike Walsh read about the stolen decorations online, and even though he didn’t personally know the family he wanted to help. He bought new decorations, and gathered volunteers to help him redecorate the house. They arrived Sunday to surprise the Aguiars.

"We're doing whatever we can and as much as we can to make their Christmas just a little better and take the pressure off them and not worry about what he's going through," said Walsh.

"We’re speechless really. We don't know what to say," Nelson said of the gesture.

"This is just amazing, like I don't have words to say,” Krista added.
