A sentencing hearing for a disgraced chiropractor began Monday with statements from the man’s victims.
Jason Hurd was accused last June of secretly photographing people at a number of locations, including his office in New Hamburg.
Five months later, he pleaded guilty to a number of voyeurism-related offences, admitting to taking 220 photos and 18 videos with a hidden camera.
The youngest of his victims was nine years old.
“Dr. Jason Hurd violated her privacy and trust,” the girl’s parents told the court Monday in a victim impact statement.
“She is often hurt and confused when I don’t allow her to participate in sleepovers, get-togethers or summer camp.”
Hurd claims he himself was sexually abused as a child, and began seeking therapy after charges were laid.
Crown attorneys have asked for a 90-day prison sentence for Hurd, with the defence seeking a conditional sentence.
