The victim of Saturday’s shooting in a conservation area north of Clinton has been identified as an executive at a Toronto construction company.
Don Frigo, 70, was the man killed in the shooting at the Hullett Wildlife Conservation Area, northeast of Clinton.
“We’re all shocked. He’s going to be dearly missed,” said Peter Naccarato, a co-worker at Hady Construction.
Frigo’s wife, Eva, was also shot and injured Saturday. Police said she received only minor injuries.
According to police, the two were attacked by a man whose identity remains unknown.
People who were in the area said the couple from the Caledona area were on horseback, training hunting dogs, at the time of the shooting.
Naccarato called bird-dogging one of Frigo’s greatest passions.
“He was out all the time with the horse and the dogs,” he said.
“He loved it. He won quite a few of the championships for that competition.”
Scott Austin, who manages the Hullett Marsh, had dinner with the Frigos last Thursday, two days before the shooting.
“They seem to be super-nice people – dedicated to their sport. Their horses and their dogs were everything (to them),” he said.
Nobody is in custody in connection with the shooting., and OPP continue to investigate.
A post-mortem examination on Frigo's body is scheduled for Tuesday.
Parts of the conservation authority remained closed Monday, with some roads blocked off by police.
