Charges have been laid following a series of armed assaults and a police takedown in Kitchener.
A heavy police presence at a townhouse unit on Foxglove Crescent in Kitchener is what residents awoke to find Wednesday morning.
“Around 2:30 a.m. I heard stop, get down, get down,” Kristy Sheenan, a nearby resident says. “I came outside and all these cops just swarmed and took down three guys.”
Police surrounded the complex overnight after investigating three separate armed robberies in Kitchener and Waterloo Tuesday.
The first incident happened in Waterloo at the corner of Regina and Lodge streets shortly before 6 p.m. when a pedestrian was confronted by a man with a dark complexion holding a handgun. The man demanded the victim hand over their personal items.
A short time later another pedestrian was involved in a similar incident. This robbery took place near the corner of Lester and Hickory streets in Waterloo. The description of the suspect was similar to that of the first holdup.
Around 10 p.m. a third armed robbery was reported in Kitchener near the corner of Ottawa Street and Fischer-Hallman Road.
“The information that we have right now is that a handgun was seen in all three and used in the commission of those robberies.” says Olaf Heinzel, spokesperson, Waterloo Regional Police Service
Police arrested two males, a 17-year-old and an adult, without incident.
Both are facing a number of charges including robbery, possession of a firearm and breach of probation.
