In a span of about 24 hours, four vehicles stopped by Perth County OPP for driving infractions resulted in the laying of more charges than police were anticipating.

The series of unexpected events began early Friday afternoon, when a car was pulled over in Mitchell for allegedly failing to stop at an amber light.

Police say the 31-year-old woman driving the vehicle was also found to be driving while suspended and driving without proper insurance.

Around 2 a.m. Saturday, a vehicle was stopped at a rural intersection just south of Sebringville for allegedly failing to stop at a stop sign.

In that case, OPP say, the 28-year-old London woman behind the wheel was found to be driving while suspended and without a current validation tag on her licence plate.

The third stop occurred about six hours later, when an SUV driven by a 33-year-old man from Ingersoll was pulled over north of Sebringville.

Police say the vehicle was pulled over because it was going unnecessarily slowly, and the driver was then found to have marijuana with him.

Finally, just after 1 p.m. Saturday, a vehicle was pulled over in Monkton for failing to stop at a stop sign.

The driver in this case was only charged for the traffic offence – but her passenger was charged after police allegedly found that he was smoking a cigarette with a child was inside the vehicle, which is illegal under the Smoke-Free Ontario Act.
