Westbound lanes of Highway 401 were closed for about 10 hours Friday following a collision that caused a truck to spill its load.

The crash occurred around 2 a.m., near the Fountain Street overpass in Cambridge.

Ontario Provincial Police said that it involved two transport trucks, one of which may have left the scene before police arrived.

The other truck remained at the scene, leaking fuel and spilling its load of garbage onto the highway.

Specialized equipment was brought in to clean up the mess.

At 11:30 a.m., people driving along the highway reported backups extending past Townline Road.

Traffic was also slow in eastbound lanes as drivers took a look at what was happening across the highway.

Two lanes reopened around 12:15 p.m., with the third expected to follow before long.

Minor injuries were reported.
