Waterloo Regional Police are investigating a crash that shut down a busy intersection north of Ayr.

Emergency crews were called to Northumberland Street and Cedar Creek Road around 4:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Three vehicles were involved in the crash.

One ended up in the ditch as a result of the collision, while a second sustained significant damage on its driver’s side.

According to police, the driver of one vehicle fell asleep while driving and crossed over the centre line.

Two people was taken to hospital to be treated for minor injuries.

The intersection remained closed until shortly before 7 p.m.
