Sparks from a machine fire at a Kitchener manufacturer made their way up the building’s ducts Friday morning, igniting a second fire that spread to the facility’s roof.

Crews from three stations were called to Kuntz Electroplating on Wilson Avenue around 6:10 a.m. due to the initial fire, in an aluminum polishing machine.

By the time they got there, the fire had reached the roof.

“We were able to get inside and get some quick extinguishment,” Kitchener Fire platoon chief Kevin Karley told CTV News.

Damage is estimated at $100,000 and no injuries were reported.
