A teenage girl was hurt Thursday evening when her minivan collided with a cement truck in Waterloo.

Police and emergency crews were called to the scene at Bridge Street and Northfield Drive just before 7 p.m.

The front of the minivan was wedged beneath the cement truck, making it difficult for emergency workers to extricate the teen.

Crews had to use hydraulic rescue tools and the jaws of life, finally removing the girl at about 8 p.m.

She was taken to hospital with injuries initially termed serious, but police said Friday that the injuries had been downgraded to minor.

Officials say there was one other person in the vehicle with the teen. That person was taken to hospital with minor injuries.

The roads were covered in snow at the time of the crash, but police are still investigating the cause.
