An 18-year-old girl who was badly hurt in a crash last week has died of her injuries.

Ontario’s Special Investigations Unit says Ashley Lerno was behind the wheel of a Mercury Marquis that became involved in a collision in the area of Gilkison and Colborne streets in Brantford.

According to the SIU, Lerno died in hospital on Wednesday.

Police have previously said that Lerno’s Marquis collided with a stolen pickup truck that had allegedly evaded a RIDE check.

Two other people received minor injuries in the crash.

A team of 10 SIU personnel continues to investigate the crash, but Brant County OPP announced Friday that charges have been laid against two people in connection with the incident.

Richard Gamble, 48, is charged with criminal negligence causing death, dangerous driving causing death, flight from police causing death, failure to stop at the scene of an accident, dangerous driving, driving while disqualified and possession of stolen property.

David Gregory, 34, is charged with possession of stolen property.

Both men appeared in court Friday and were remanded into custody, police said.
