The Stanley Cup was in Kitchener on Sunday, as Tanner Pearson had his chance to bring the cup to his hometown. The 21-year-old has played with the L.A. Kings for his entire NHL career. He had four goals and eight assists during the playoffs.

“It’s a dream come true, it’s unbelievable to have this trophy, but to come back and celebrate with people that support you the whole way up is pretty special” said Tanner Pearson.

Thousands of people lined up at Kitchener City Hall for a chance to have their picture taken with Pearson and the cup.

“It’s kind of cool to watch all these little kids look at it, and you know, I was one of those kids once upon a time too.” Pearson said about the Stanley Cup.

Pearson started his hockey career playing for the Waterloo Siskins, and then in the OHL with the Barrie Colts. He also represented Canada in the 2012 World Jr Championships.

“It’s an unbelievable feeling what Tanner’s accomplished and to see him come into Kitchener and bring the cup back to the fans and the people that were influential in his hockey career, yeah we’re really happy with the turn out today” said Tim Pearson, Tanner’s father.

“From the time he could walk, he would pick up anything that looked like a hockey stick and hit something around” his mother Kim Pearson added.

The Pearson family was accepting donations for the Ronald McDonald house in Hamilton at the event.
