Once again, Waterloo Regional Police are turning to students for help naming their new canine recruits.

Last year, a name-the-police-dog contest resulted in Chase being selected as the name for the region’s newest four-legged recruit.

With two more German sheperds in the midst of training and expected to join the service this year, the police are again looking for name suggestions.

Elementary and high school students in the region are being encouraged to submit their ideas through participating schools.

“Children have such great imaginations and often come up with creative and unique ideas that adults would never think of,” Insp. Dave Bishop said in a press release.

The two winning names will be announced in October.

The students who suggested them will get to meet police dogs and Chief Bryan Larkin.
