A small section of Brant County has seen three significant fires – and what seems to be an attempt to set a fourth – in less than a week.

It started last week, when firefighters were called to the John Derus Service Centre on Cockshutt Road south of Brantford.

Once there, they found what they describe as an attempt to set the building on fire.

Early Friday morning, they returned to the service centre for an actual fire, which caused significant damage.

A barn at Cockshutt and Oxbow roads was destroyed by fire Friday night, and a barn on Newport Road met the same fate Sunday afternoon.

All of those fires, which occurred within a two-kilometre radius near the community of Newport, are being treated as suspicious.

Brant County OPP say they want to hear from anyone who has information which may help them piece together the events of the past few days.
