A man seen running away from a stolen vehicle near St. Marys was taken into custody – and when police showed up at the home of the vehicle’s registered owner, they made another arrest.

It all started Tuesday afternoon, when a police officer noticed a vehicle in the ditch on the 35th Line in Zorra Township, near Perth-Oxford Road.

According to Oxford County OPP, two men were seen running away from the vehicle.

One of them, a 32-year-old St. Marys man, was found nearby and placed under arrest. He faces charges of possession obtained by crime and possession of break-in instruments.

After that, officers made their way to the home on the 35th Line where the vehicle was registered to.

A 25-year-old woman was arrested there after police discovered firefighter gear that had been stolen from Guelph.

A search warrant allegedly turned up other stolen items, including identification stolen during a break-in at a Guelph home in March, and a chequebook stolen from a vehicle in Rockwood last week.

Police say they found tools, phones, jewelry, identification documents and other stolen items in the vehicle as well.
