A Waterloo man is one of two people facing new charges in connection with a police investigation into two addiction treatment centres.

The OPP first looked into the Addiction Canada Treatment Centre in Caledon last June, after receiving a tip about two men at the clinic who allegedly claimed to be doctors, even though neither had a licence to practice medicine in Ontario.

The following month, police raided the clinic, as well as facilities by the same name in Aurora and Burk’s Falls.

The case then stayed quiet until Wednesday, when police announced charges against two more people in connection with the case.

A 51-year-old Kleinburg man, who police say was the owner of the clinic, faces charges including fraud, money laundering and drug trafficking. Police claim he also submitted more than $11,000 worth of fraudulent claims to the province’s Ontario Drug Benefit Plan.

Charges of fraud and drug trafficking have also been laid against a 30-year-old man from Waterloo, who police allege falsely claimed to be a doctor.
