Max Allin became only the second player in Laurier school history to reach 1,500 points on Wednesday night as the Golden Hawks men's basketball team posted a 94-80 victory over the Waterloo Warriors.

Allin, who entered the game with 1,499 career points, finished the game with eight points, nine rebounds and six assists to join former teammate Kale Harrison as the only two Laurier players who have reached the milestone.  The Chatham-native now has 1,507 points as a Golden Hawk, which ranks him 12th overall in OUA history.

While Allin's all-around play was key for the Hawks, it was the play of rookie Jack Simmons that had the biggest impact on the contest.  The Galt Collegiate grad, playing in his first Battle of Waterloo, was an impressive 13-for-17 from the field and finished the game with a career-high 28 points to go along with eight rebounds.

Waterloo-native Mike Helsby led the Warriors’ offensive attack with 21 points.  With the win, Laurier improves to 4-5 on the season while Waterloo falls to 0-8.

Both teams will close out the 2013 portion of their schedules this Saturday afternoon.  The Hawks travel to Guelph to take on the Gryphons, while Waterloo visits Brock.  Tip-off for both men’s game is set for 3:00 pm.
