The Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks men's hockey team scored a stunning comeback victory over the Guelph Gryphons in Game #1 of their best-of-three OUA playoff series.

After trailing 3-0 with less than sixteen minutes left in regulation time, the Golden Hawks rallied for a 4-3 win in double overtime.  Trent Hawke played the hero by scoring just over five minutes into the second overtime period to give Laurier a 1-0 series lead.

Mitchell Good, Frank Riddle and Greg Cerilli all scored in the final sixteen minutes of the game to force extra time after Guelph had earned themselves a three-goal cushion on home ice.  Jon-Thomas MacDonald, with two goals, and Nicklas Huard replied for the Gryphons.

In goal, Ryan Daniels earned the fourth win of his playoff career as he stopped 33 shots for the Hawks, including six in overtime.  The Gryphons’ Andrew Loverock turned away 31 shots in the loss.

The Hawks will now head home where they will try to close out the series on Saturday night at the Waterloo Recreation Complex.  Game time is set for 8:00 pm.
